5. RED DEAD REDEMPTION | Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games builds incredible worlds, but you knew that already. It was no surprise that the company's version of the Wild West was by turns gorgeous, imposing, desolate, and vibrant. But Red Dead Redemption also offered Rockstar's most mature storytelling to date, with its most complex and sympathetic protagonist. John Marston is everything you could ask for in an Old West hero: humble, straightforward, and fueled by an inner fire that his enemies just can't extinguish.
