But this year's model, Modern Warfare 3, is the product of a broken home. Developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the Call of Duty franchise, MW3 is the company's first release since much of its creative talent left under a volley of lawsuits with Activision. No doubt Infinity Ward's institutional memory counts for something, but the brain drain, combined with a strong showing by Battlefield 3, could signal a sea change in the market.
