Lindelof and Cuse have made it clear that not every mystery will be solved and not every set-up will have a satisfying resolution. Emerson does wish that his character's backstory could have been explored more thoroughly. "I always thought we would find that someone else had survived the Dharma Initiative massacre, and that Ben was connected to them somehow. Some stuff just falls by the wayside, and it will be forever a tantalizing mystery."
