Brit and Dick

The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz has a collection of commentary about the Dick Cheney/Brit Hume sitdown yesterday. In the interests of "We Report, You Decide," I'll let people make their own judgment about Hume's objectivity and performance.

But isn't it nice that a veep in deep doo-doo can cherry pick a media outlet that he knows is inherently friendly?  I mean, if Hume hadn't been available, I wouldn't have been shocked to see Cheney tell his story to Rush Limbaugh.

Of course, long gone are the days when one TV newsman commanded enough universal respect and authority -- ala Walter Cronkite -- to be the inescapable, unavoidable vehicle for such an important interview. Unfortunately, "Uncle Wally" has gotten a little whacky in his old age.

I echo and love your post, Mark. I said as much earlier on your blog. That's until the very last statement:

"Unfortunately, "Uncle Wally" has gotten a little whacky in his old age."

Very uncalled for and unfair.

I wishhe stayed in dignified retirement and preserve his aura intact.

But the guy was sent over the edge with so many insane things happening and coming out of the 43rd school. Especially in an election year where many thought it was finally a year of change even if we would have ended up with a narcissistic.

He isn't wacko; he was successfully cast as such and hence neutralized by a very cunning rightwingnut media and the RNC.

I'd hate for you to put a stamp on their personal take down or the take down of any honorable well-intentioned person from the left or the right.

"Wally" isn't automatically form the left. He had been a fair and neutral person for very long. It just so happens that he and the left are on the right(ful) side of most but not all things. That's all.
