For it’s 2009 Biennial, the Portland Museum of Art whittled down 970 applicants to just 17 Maine (or at least Maine-affiliated) artists. The resulting exhibit, which gives a snapshot of local art now, runs through June 7.

Pictured: Ethan Hayes-Chute (Berlin, Germany, and Freeport, Maine, born 1982), Hermitage, 2009, mixed media, variable. Lent by the artist.
