CG What’s up, girl? Friday night was bananas!
ST Where to start? The Casco Bay Cabaret was packed, huh?
CG Yeah, it was pretty neat, aside from every skit being five minutes too much.
ST Kelly Nesbitt was amazing with that giant faux ass doing that lip-synch/performance number. The timing was impeccable and she looked like a Dr. Seuss superhero.
CG True, true. And Crank Sturgeon spin-off Bad Bus was chaotic and out-of-place in just the right way. Gotta love a dumbfounded crowd.
ST I felt like I was in Bad Bus. I’m standing out back and the next thing I know Ian Paige is sitting on the bar hollering through megaphones in my ear. And I can’t touch the shadow performance.
CG No one can. The second one was an hour long! So glad we split to the Asylum just in time for Cult Maze. How’s it feel to lose your virginity to my favorite band in town?
ST I need their album all up in my iTunes ASAP. Finally, Pete and Andrew settle into a band that is the perfect combination: carefully composed, yet still vital prog-rock. And, it was so trill of Joshua to hop on the drum riser and face his guitar at Andrew as he played away.
CG Totally rock and roll. Booze-soaked, fierce, and tight. Seemed like the whole scene was there, which is quite a feat in such a big place. Odd to see local bands on such a huge stage with big-league sound, but they pulled it off well. At least I think they did, my memory’s hazy. I was, though, psyched to see Jake Chamberlain (formerly of Acta Non Verba) drumming for Phantom Buffalo.
ST Ahhh . . . dreamy Jake Chamberlain. While you were getting tipsy I checked out the entirely new sound of Satellite Lot, minus drummer, plus drum machine. They’re way more electro, with an ’80s feel. How could you forget Sydney Bourke’s new haircut, lace glove, and was she wearing an eye mask?
CG Dude, I forgot everything. I called one of my best friends a douchebag. Satellite Lot were the victims of my drunken socializing. I’ll have to make it up to them.
ST Allow me to finish out the night for our readers then, Drunky. A friend turned to me during Phantom Buffalo’s set and said, “I can’t believe these guys haven’t gone bigger.” Agreed. During my favorite new PB song, Brandon (of Extendo-Ride) tackled Jonny Balzano-Brookes to the ground. Naked. Nothing like a streaker to round out a fabulous night.
CG I forgot about that! Oh, by the way, I totally told Jake you’re crushing on him. Oops!
ST Dude, I’m so married.
