Along with the rest of the band, Sadler is anything but nostalgic for the aggressive sounds of their early works (“No, no . . . boring! No joy in those songs anymore”), anything but worried over how public perception might affect the band’s future (“It’s an eternal presence for me”), and anything but concerned about the bus (“Things aren’t always smooth, but that is the story of humankind!”). Where uncertainty and fickleness define so many artists, it’s encouraging to see the Lab stick to their experiments — and excel by the simple practice of keeping their priorities straight: “We’re just fortunate to be alive, on tour and on this beautiful planet. Is it always pure joy? No.”
