• Make sure to swing by the White Heart April 3 to see THE LIN, who's part of the DIRT COALITION hip-hop collective and has released a five-song EP called Metal on Metal. What you might call post-hip-hop, it collects all manner of samples, manufactured beats, and various guitar solos into sometimes-instrumental tracks that are something like jazz-newage-electronica, and sometimes-rapped underground hip-hop. There's some cool distorted cutting and crabbing, synths, and lots to listen for.
• A report from a "Sibilance" field agent: Last weekend at the Brickhouse, in Dover, New Hampshire, PARANOID SOCIAL CLUB frontman DAVE GUTTER and drummer TONY MCNABOE had a contest to see who could make himself puke first by using a drumstick down the throat. Gutter won. "I think he'd had oatmeal recently."
• ERIC BETTENCOURT debuted a new band at the Big Easy last weekend: ELLIOT JACOBS on drums, ADAM MONTMINY (Grupo Esperanza, Line of Force, Hamilton County) on bass, and ERIC AMBROSE (Grupo Esperanza, Please Be Ours) on keys, banjo, and trombone.
