Let's face it — it's hot, we're poor, and we're lucky to be stealing our neighbor's wireless. When you can't muster the energy to go out in these dog days of summer you can go to the best attended venue not only in Portland, but worldwide: the Internet.
Introducing [dog] and [pony]. Local moviemakers Nick Poulin and Krister Rollins (we're not sure who is which animal) are out on the town when you can't be, capturing it all in high definition.
"We decided filming bands would not only bring us closer to the music that we love, but publishing it on a website might actually help spread the word about Portland's blossoming scene." We here at Music Seen not only appreciate this but know there is a dire need for their top-notch services. As Rollins states on his blog, "Any sucker can make music videos. We're trying something (slightly) different."
Their technical expertise are obvious from the quality of the videos(we imagine they get a lot of experience at their day jobs at WGME-TV), but more there is resounding emotion and intimacy behind their work. It is up-close-and-personal (and borderline invasive — some shots close in on the pores of their subject's face and dirt under their nails).
What [dog] and [pony] are doing is being your eyes. They're taking the deeper look that we can't when sitting in the back row. The virtual experience places you alongside the performers — as if you the viewer are sitting down with drumsticks in hand behind the kit.
Their montages capture the essence of both person and place and pay tribute to familiar scenes unique to our city and state. Catch their most recent episodes, featuring Boxy and Haru Bangs, and Jesse Pilgrim.
