• The HOLY BOYS DANGER CLUB are making a real go of it. They've made a video for "Criminal," off the Lessons for Liars EP from earlier this year. GUY MANLY VIDEOS, who crafted the Cambiata documentary, did the filming. Check the brand-new www.holyboysdangerclub.com to take a peek.
• The band break-up news continues: This time it's HIGHWAY JACKSON, who've decided the August 28 show at Champs in Biddeford will be their last. Frontman KRIS RODGERS says they've burnt themselves out. He'll continue on with a solo project (it's all the rage nowadays), while MIKE BEAN and COREY PACILLO will start up a cover band, and TYLER JOHNSON and BRANDON REYNOLDS call it completely quits for a bit.
• The SEA CAPTAINS say the first full-length is in the can, though they're not talking title. If everything works out, they say it could be ready by October. So ... November then?
• It's like an unrelenting storm of metal, and details keep rolling in: DEAD SEASON's new full-length will be called Life Death and will drop September 14 at Bull Moose stores, after that pre-release show at the Oxford Fair (a/k/a home turf) on September 13.
• THE STATION's all 21+ now. Sucks for the kids. Anyone want to open one of those non-profit all-ages performance hall thingies? Like in that old Pier One building maybe? Where are you, Well, now that we really need you?

Without beating around the bush, here are three EPs worth hearing that have been sitting around the office a bit.
- Anna's Ghost haunts the Empire
Maybe it's a blip on the radar screen, but there seems to be a renewed interest in the music video lately. TWISTED ROOTS have been garnering attention for their "Hollow Earth" effort and we're big fans of the bare-chested LEFTOVERS that splash through "Telephone Operator."
- Pain makes you beautiful
With all the success Dead Season have had, perhaps their greatest talent lies in their unflappable honesty, their unwavering self-confidence. At times, their songs, full of introspection and naked emotion, are like being forced to stare at the sun. The instinct to blink is strong.

- Something Lost, something gained
So delicate and so menacing.
- Scrutiny of the bounty
I'm an enthusiastic guy, and maybe prone to hyperbole from time to time, but it's hard to argue that 2008 wasn't an all-time banner year for music created here in the Portland area.
- Life in Ruin
Recently, Bull Moose wondered "aloud" (via Facebook) about the future of metal.
