Sustainable Portland is a go
By SARA DONNELLY  |  May 3, 2006

Mayor Jim Cohen’s Sustainable Portland Task Force was established May 1 in a unanimous city council vote. The members of the task force are Jon Hinck, former staff attorney for the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Democratic candidate to represent the West End in Augusta; Brent Bridges, senior vice president of Woodard & Curran consulting; David Littell, commissioner of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection; Mac McCabe, president and owner of O’Naturals restaurants; Travis Wagner, USM professor of environmental science; Martha Sheils, a private citizen with a degree in environmental science and management; and Gunnar Hubbard, an architect at Fore Solutions. City councilor Jill Duson and former mayor Nathan Smith will co-chair the committee, which, Cohen says, plans to look at ways the city can reduce carbon emissions and encourage green businesses, among other goals.
