Urban Hardware is decidedly urbane

If you’ve been wondering where to go when you desperately need a hammer and a stylish sieve — and really, who doesn’t? — look no further than the brand-new Urban Hardware, which stocks practical tools and DIY supplies alongside glossy kitchenware in eye-popping colors like lime green and candy orange. The new space at 634 Congress Street (across from Geno’s) is the brainchild and “retirement plan” of Norm Jabar, who also owns the Downtown Lounge, Norm’s East End Grill, and Norm’s Bar and Grill. He envisions the store — which will eventually have a supply of small electronics, as well as an expanded garden section next spring — as a magnet for “condominium and apartment people who don’t have cars ...You know, an old mercantile kind of store. It’s got a little bit of everything.”
