What about the theme of the show, the “dumb blonde” stereotyping that operates like any other prejudice?
“We’ve been judged all our lives,” Rhiannon says. “I have a goofy personality, and I get judged for that a lot. I’ve had people tell me that the only reason you’re getting any-where is because you’re pretty.”
That sort of attitude is familiar to Lauren. “People are always shocked to see someone who’s blonde or very feminine or very girly or very bubbly also be very intelligent. That can be very threatening to some people, because they can’t use that stereotype against them.”
“The show isn’t made to only relate to girls who are in sororities or who love pink or who love shopping,” Lauren adds. “It’s just about being yourself and not changing for other people, and to have them to learn to love you for who you are, instead of changing for these people.”
