The songs are wonderful, from the upbeat "I Got Rhythm," fit for an Act One curtain closer, to the languorous "Bidin' My Time," eased out by the lazy, thumbs-in-belts cowboys. There are characterizing solos, such as Bobby's "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and Polly's "But Not For Me." We get "Nice Work If You Can Get It" done as a production number, and the obscure "Slap That Bass" done with the men strumming the women, who are stretching ropes taut between their feet and hands, like contrabasses.
Costume designer Brad Musgrove needs to be singled out for his lavish work, which plunges us into the time period as well as the songs. Those furs mentioned above trim an elaborate cape-coat. In the second half, to pull us back into Manhattan sophistication, a runway's worth of elegant black-and-white fashions sets the stage.
Crazy for You is inspired madness, indeed.

Anyone who likes musicals has to love cabarets, which are Whitman's samplers of humming-in-the-shower favorites. So if you end up taking in one of the shows this summer at Theater by the Sea in Matunuck, you also might be interested in catching the post-show Bistro by the Sea Cabaret.

The much loved tale of Peter Pan gets a revival on Broadway at least every generation for good reason. Not just because it appeals to kids, which goes without saying, but because it gives grownups a respectable excuse to see it themselves with their own kids.

Admit it — we are all a little perverse. How else to explain the difficulty, unless you are comatose, in not laughing heartily at Dirty Rotten Scoundrels , the tale of two con men plying their criminal trade on the French Riviera.

Musical revues can be like videos of old golf tournaments — endless, amiable tedium interspersed with opportunities to wake up and smile nostalgically. Not so with My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra , at least not with this terrific production opening the season at Theatre by the Sea (through June 14).
