Summary: If it’s true that all of our earthly radio communications are even now rippling their way across the galaxies in ever-expanding circles, the music of Area C lets us imagine these sonic ripples at the extreme limit of their journey out, in the moment where their original substance and meaning begins to fray, break, and fold back in on itself under the strain of a glowingly resonant outbound force. AREA C is Erik Carlson. AREA C's latest CD, "Charmed Birds vs. Sorcery," was released in February 2009 on Students of Decay, and an upcoming 2xCD release from the recent live planetarium performances will appear on Sedimental later this year. AREA C has been commissioned by the NASA RI Space Grant Consortium and the LEF Foundation, and received the RI Foundation's MacColl-Johnson Fellowship in music composition in 2009. Carlson also works with media installation, public art and architecture.
