Peter principle
Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
I’ve been on a couple dates with a guy I really like. He once asked me what it was that initially attracted me to him. I told him it was his sincerity and his really warm smile. In fact, it was really the generous bulge in his trousers. Should I be honest and tell him this?
_JR
Dear JR,
I suppose this depends on how “dick-oriented” you would like this nascent relationship to be. Dr. Lovemonkey has found that quite a few (perhaps a majority) of men find it flattering when told that they appear to have prominent members. But what if he’s stuffing his slacks with socks or the always-popular cucumber? Will your interest in him diminish? Will his use of a codpiece lead you to believe that he might have some “issues?” There is no real reason for you to commence dick talk unless you are in a rush to have him start employing it with you. If the relationship is going well, there’s no reason to “go there.”
What would Harry do?
Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
I've been hearing a lot of people talk about religious themes in Harry Potter, something I've never thought about before. A lot of people are saying Harry is meant to be Jesus, and now that I'm re-reading the books, I wonder if that was J.K. Rowling's plan. Do you think the Harry Potter series is full of religious themes?
_Confused Harry Fan
Dear Confused,
I am sure there are many columns, blogs, and Web sites where the supposed religious themes in Harry Potter are a topic of discussion. This is not a topic here for the very simple reason that Dr. Lovemonkey has not read any of the Harry Potter books. Hence, I have no opinion on the matter. However, if you want to discuss Robert Caro’s ongoing multi-volume biography of LBJ, I might have some thoughts — but not for this column.
Single sources
Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
I’m not having any luck in the realm of romance. I live in a small town and do not find a whole lot of dating options here. I’ve heard a lot of positive things about romance vacations, where you travel with other singles in search of romance. Are these a good idea, and do you have any other tips for finding romance on vacation?
_Looking for Love
Dear Looking,
Romance can pop up in any sort of situation. Singles cruises would certainly qualify, but you should understand going in that they are set up to maximize fantasy elements, not necessarily realistic situations where real connections and attachments are cultivated. It might be enjoyable, but caveat emptor.
