Not shipping up to Boston

Could be verse: poetry ripped from the headlines
By JAMES PARKER  |  November 14, 2007

Lines upon learning that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI will not, as previously rumored, be making a stop in Boston during his upcoming visit to the US

The man who is powered by bells and candles
Must keep himself above earthly scandals:
A visit to this abused flock might be
Injurious to infallibility.

Not shipping up to Boston
The Pope isn't avoiding Boston. This whole story (not just here, but in all of Boston media) is overblown. It is not always about us. It's ironic that Maggie of the "There is nothing west of Worcester" mindset has to be the one to point this out. The Pope is a busy man and our little anniversary here in boston does not rank high on his agenda, nor should it. Pope Benedict does not "owe" Boston a visit because of the sex abuse scandal. The horrors that were perpetrated on children in Boston and the surrounding parishes were not carried out under Pope Benedict's watch. Also, just how would a Papal visit help heal anyone's pain? This Pope does not travel like his predecessor and this visit to America has specific purposes. The Pope is focused on Middle East peace. How would traveling to Boston advance that agenda? It's not a grand world tour.

Not shipping up to Boston
I think that the city of Boston should be thankful that this bigoted misguided cult leader is not coming to Boston, I for one think the city should celebrate. Don't think for one minute that the reason he is not coming isn't because of the "same-sex" marriage thing. As a young man he was a NAZI and as an old man he's still a BIGOT...good riddence!!!
