Former Boston stand-up guy Bill Burr has lost more than his hair over the years: a layer of inhibition has been buzz-cut away from his latest observational comedy (caught on this DVD of the hour-long Comedy Central special that debuts this Sunday) that his Chappelle’s Show appearances only suggested. The tirades he delivers here, always laced with self-depreciation (the title is a line he frequently uses to introduce his mistakes), amount to a lovingly mean-spirited string of barbs aimed at racists, idiots, girlfriends, bikers, and well, just about everybody. Of course, compared with his YouTubed 2006 tirade at a Philadelphia audience — where in a super-profane 10-minute spiel he suggests the crowd get eyeball-gang-raped and throws in “Fuck the Liberty Bell and shove it up Ben Franklin’s ass” — this is tame. But it’s also crassly brilliant.

  •   OLD MAN RIFFER  |  February 25, 2010
Bluesman James "T-Model" Ford is a survivor, and has been for a very long time.
  •   RICKIE LEE JONES | BALM IN GILEAD  |  December 02, 2009
It’s astonishing to think that Rickie Lee Jones would turn out an album this organic and free of cynicism 30 years after her debut with the star-making, retro-hipster hit “Chuck E.’s in Love.” Particularly since her songwriting has always been so acutely self-aware.
  •   MYSTIC MUSO  |  November 04, 2009
“America’s Pre-eminent Music Writer Dead at 52” was the headline on Robert Palmer’s obituary in Rolling Stone after his liver failed in 1997.
  •   BRENDAN HOGAN | LONG NIGHT COMING  |  October 21, 2009
    Self-released (2009)
  •   DARRELL NULISCH | JUST FOR YOU  |  October 22, 2009
This Boston-based blues and soul singer’s seventh album might seem an update of the elegantly funky Stax sound, with its deep grooves and smartly harmonized horns.
