Man of the Century

By PHILLIPE + JORGE  |  June 4, 2008

The festival will include tons of workshops, on topics ranging from community gardening and renewable energy to managing water resources, presented by the best and brightest in Lit-tle Rhody and beyond. So bring the kiddies, bring the wife, your guaranteed to have the time of your life (with apologies to fans of the New York Mets).

Features include loads o’ music, highlighted by a longtime P&J fave, Cheryl Wheeler; a wide variety of outdoor activities; and an “Eco Mall” with green shopping galore and info on the latest green technologies and creative ideas for home and work.

Go to livingfest.org for more info and tickets. And as always, be there or be unsustained.

Loyalty and the real truths
Now that Scott McClellan has gotten so many media and political knickers into a total twist, how about a rational look at what he says in his new book, What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception?

There is no sense running around like Butterfly McQueen’s Prissy in Gone with the Wind, hands flapping overhead, screaming, “I don’t know nuthin’ ’bout WMDs, Miz Scarlett!” Eve-ryone in the world now knows the Bushies were lying through their teeth to get us into a war with Iraq. They also know about Scooter Libby and Karl Rove outing Valerie Plame, so McClellan has no biggie there.

And to the idiotically disingenuous questions of “Why is he saying this now?” and “Why didn’t he say this when he was in the White House?” the answer is: “Because he was being paid to parrot whatever Dubya and Co. told him to say, and to believe it was the truth, since it came from the effing president of the United States, for Chrissakes!!!”

P&J counter the predictable “disloyalty” accusations. We commend McClellan, for not being true to a delusional, chicken hawk, prevaricating nitwit who got us into a war that has cost the lives of thousands of American soldiers, inflicted horrific injuries, and caused an obscene numbers of civilian deaths.

McClellan is being loyal to his country, exposing the unspeakable betrayal of the American citizenry by a bunch of self-serving, torturing, greedy and amoral war criminals who have lowered our global standing beyond measure.
