In other words, since they won't be able to alter the outcome of the pro-Sotomayor vote nor attack her without causing serious damage to their own party with a voting bloc they desperately need to woo, they might as well use the hearings to beat up on Obama, his use of the word "empathy" to describe a value the president seeks in a Supreme Court Justice, and for his Senate votes against Justices Roberts and Alito. Then Sotomayor will breeze through the confirmation vote.
There needs to be some Obama blood shed to get Sonia into her seat, so sit back and drink in the spectacle of the Republicans playing their snarky games, Rush bellowing his racist filth (he ain't running for shit so he can be the new George Wallace, Orval Faubus, and Strom Thurmond rolled into one), and the likes of Chuck Schumer summoning up his memories of Tailgunner Joe and whining, "Sir, have you no sense of decency?" It's all being done for your amusement, America. Too bad it's actually about serious stuff.
