Martha Lucia Giraldo Villano
Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard

We give loot to the Colombian military and they in turn roust and kill their citizenry. Thankfully, activists tell the world about the atrocities. Martha Lucia Giraldo Villano is one of these whistle-blowers. Colombian police killed her father in a "false positive" move to eradicate guerillas. "I am part of the Victims of State Crimes Movement. We work together on organizing and training in order to demand our rights to truth, justice and reparation," she says. Witness For Peace, a group that brings these kinds of matters to the world, says that "Colombian human rights organizations report that 1122 civilians were murdered by the country's Armed Forces between July 2002 and June 2007, a 68-percent increase over the previous five-year period. The rate of such extrajudicial executions is still on the rise." Villano will discuss the situation at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 383 Old North Road, Kingston, at 7 pm | 401.783.2425
