From Lara Croft to Samus Aran, lustful gaming has always been a man's, man's, man's world. You know the score: double-barreled heroines keep the boys' hands on their joysticks, but with more women than ever grabbing the controls – now more than 40 percent of all players are female, according to most estimates – developers have finally begun to give us ladies some eye candy, too. After all, what fangirl doesn’t like a man who can hold his load? And while we’ve long had the hots for classic studs like Link, Solid Snake, and Sephiroth, 2008 was a banner year for fangirl fantasies from bishonen to beefcake. So without further ado, we give you the 10 sexiest male video game characters of the year: these are the guys who kept us going and going and going...

10. Duke of Gravity from Rock Band 2
He’s been fingering our fretboards since the original Rock Band, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he gave us his real name. (Which is always the way with guys in bands, isn’t it?) Now that H armonix has told us what to call him, there are even more fans of the Duke. His bright pink and blue hair certainly don’t make him conventionally attractive – don’t even get us started on the goggles -- but the Duke has inexplicably developed a cult following. More proof that rock stars don’t have to look good or dress well to sweep groupies off their feet.

This list is fantastic! I'm really glad to see a lot of male characters that deviate from the mainstream, but at the same time are so important to the gaming culture (I'm really happy to see Yuri on here).
The best touch is definately the Duke of Gravity. I work at a video game store where people can actually play video games in the store. We have Rock Band set up, and every single day (no exageration, you can't make this kind of stuff up) customers (everyone: kids, teenage girls, grown men...) fight over who gets to play as him. THEY HAVE RACES TO REACH HIS CHARACTER FIRST. I don't know why, but everyone is drawn to The Duke.

This is a terrible list. Obviously you don't play that many video games. What about the lead from Mass Effect. Or the lead from the Fable series. At any rate, these aren't very manly men studs, just a bunch of guys who look like girls.

Well, that's quite an insulting thing to say. Just because you don't agree with a list doesn't mean that you ought to be a jerk about it.
Mass Effect didn't come out in 2008 (it came out in 2007) and Fable's main character is customizable, therefore null and void. Not a lot of stunning "manly-man" male leads actually debuted in 2008, which is what this list is for (the ones that did debut in 2008). Otherwise, I'm sure Marcus Fenix, Snake, and Sephiroth would have made the list. 2008 was, debatably, the year of the "bishounen".
That aside, there's nothing wrong with androgny. It's in right now, and this list caters well to it.

REVIEW: A BOY AND HIS BLOB | October 27, 2009
A Boy and his Blob got its start as a 1989 Nintendo game designed by David Crane, who also designed Pitfall! . This 2009 remake features Miyazaki-inspired art and cel-shaded animation, giving the maps a storybook quality. Unfortunately, the story itself still leaves much to be desired; no further complexity has been layered onto the 1989 game’s backstory.
