The Addison will be closing on July 13 for a major renovation, scheduled for completion in early 2010. Until then, you can still view the gallery's collection of more than 16,000 works, including paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, decorative arts, and photographs by American artists from Colonial times to the present. Normal hours are Tues through Sat from 10 am to 5 pm, and on Sun from 1 to 5 pm. Free.

The Art Complex houses contemporary works as well as the Carl A. Weyerhaeuser collection, whose highlights include Asian art, Shaker furniture, and prints by Durer, Turner, and Rembrandt. Tea ceremonies are performed periodically at the Japanese tea hut on the grounds. Check online for updated schedule of exhibits, classes, and concerts throughout the summer. Concord's past is brought to life inside this museum, current home of the lantern that hung in the Old North Church on the night of Paul Revere's famous ride, Emerson’s study, and the desk upon which Thoreau wrote Walden and "Civil Disobedience." The "Why Concord?" galleries examine Concord’s remarkable history from Native American settlement through the 20th century. Opened in 1896 and built in the style of an Italian palazzo, the museum houses a collection that includes Japanese arms and armor, a Shinto wheel shrine, Islamic rugs and decorative arts, plaster casts of famous sculptures, and one of the largest collections of Chinese cloisonné in the West. The Art Discovery Center offers hands-on activities that help children explore the collections. Open Tues through Sun from 11 am to 4 pm.
