And now the bad news


Part of it, anyway. In Romney's just-released budget proposal: the Massachusetts Cultural Council--the state's key grantmaking organization for arts and culture--would see its funding slashed by $2.4 million. This would be disastrous for the MCC, which saw its funding gutted in 2002 and still remains woefully underfunded.

The good news, such as it is, is that the House and Senate seem to agree on the importance of the arts, and are likely to be much more generous in their budget proposals. Still, not a good day for the MCC, or for supporters of the arts in general.
