Mitt Romney, Greatest Politician Ever

Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter doesn't actually say that. But in "A Rising Star, Out of the Blue," he comes close.

Therein, our governor is favorably compared to Bill Frist, John McCain, George W. Bush, and his father, George Romney. For good measure, Alter also describes Mitt as "[s]mooth-faced," "supple," and "skillful," compliments his hair, and says his Mormonism won't be an issue for most voters.

Damn.

Alter sounds like all the people who were absolutely giddy four years ago with the prospect of Romney for Governor. The guy sure does give a great power point presentation, but when it comes time to roll up his sleaves and govern, he either gets bored easily or is too full of himself to work with anyone else. How many of his supporters in 2002 would say he's been a great (or even good) governor? Christy Mihos? Don't think so. Anybody who's not on his payroll? Probably not.
