Talking Politics - What ails Bonifaz?

What ails Bonifaz?

About John Bonifaz's "Where's Galvin?" spots: are they crippled by some kind of fatal technological flaw, or what? I've tried watching on a few occasions, and whatever parameters I try--Firefox + Quicktime, Explorer + Windows Media, etc.--the video never actually rolls.

Maybe my own technological ineptitude is to blame. That said, I can't help seeing the "Where's Galvin?" series as a metaphor for the entire Bonifaz campaign. Bonifaz is clearly a smart dude; after all, they don't give those MacArthur fellowships to just anybody. And I have great respect for his campaign manager, Juan Martinez. But for whatever, Bonifaz's candidacy just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Yeah, I know Galvin's avoiding him, but there's got to be some other explanation.

Suggestions, anybody?

No one cares. If it aint broke don't fix it. And it needs to be real broke to fix it.
And Galvin knows what he is doing when it comes to election laws and frauds.

Gotta agree with Ernie. Galvin's no Joementum. Much as some might wish it were different, unseating a competent, popular, well-financed incumbent is heavy lifting.

I was able to observe Mr. Bonifaz at a public forum in front of about 150 people.

During the Q&A, I asked him a pointed question, which was designed to undercut an assumption of his presentation.

No answer. He wilted like elderly lettuce. Very underwhelming.

The videos work for me. But yeah gotta agree, little momentum.

Boy I just wasted more than 5 minutes of my life watching the video. Cute idea, but sp poorly executed--painful.

Frankly, he's talking about issues that are not important to people and not really actually a problem (we do not have nonpaper ballots in MA).

Also, he can be kinda shrill in my opinion, and definitely not polished though why would he be?

I think he should have ran for the state legislature, he would have had a smaller race up front, and some of his pet issues are better addressed by the legislature frankly.

Oh, and the fact he can be said to HAVE pet issues...it pigeonholes him and also makes voters wonder if he can handle all the OTHER issues the SecState handles.

Sorry for the juvenile wording of my comments, I am watching the Lowell City Council meeting and posting my notes for that too at hte same time. ;P

Hey Adam, you might want to check in with the Phoenix's IT Department (is there such a thing?) - I could see the ads just fine (Firefox/Quicktime). But Frank is right - they are BOOOOORING!!

Also, check out BMG's RenMan for an even worse problem with these ads, esp. the most recent one.

If I lived in Mass. again, I would vote for Bonifaz. He is a good man. And, it isn't that Galvin is bad. He is just tired. The office needs new blood.

I don't disagree with either of your statements about Bonifaz ...and Galvin, Tony. But I still think Bonifaz isn't quite ready for prime time. He needs to attach himself to his pet issues a little...less shrilly, a little more conversationally, he needs to stop attacking Galvin unnecessarily...people don't see Galvin as a terrible pol, therefore it makes Bonifaz look shrill when he goes on the attack.

I think the debate is important, I think having a challenger for the seat is great, I just think Bonifaz would get further with a more calm voice instead of crying conspiracy everywhere he goes.
