Romney Rat Of The Day

The Hill reports today on a little secret I've been tracking down among Mitt Romney's fundraising minions: Robert Lichfield, a co-chair of Romney's Utah finance team, is at the center of a scandal involving the World Wide Association of Specialty Programs and Schools (WWASPS). WWASPS operates or funds a bunch of "tough love" academies that have been accused of all manner of nastiness -- a Google search will get you to the anti-WWASPS sites.

Lichfield is a key player and is named in the lawsuits, but The Hill doesn't mention that he's far from the only Romney maximum-contributor linked to the WWASPS scandal. There's J. Ralph Atkin, partner with WWASPS' Teen Help; Richard Darrington of Darrington Academy; Brent Facer, Lichfield's partner and WWASPS trustee; L. Karr Farnsworth of Cross Creek Manor and former WWASPS President; Jason Finlinson of Academy at Ivy Ridge; Dace Goulding of Orion Behavioral and Darrington Academy; Robert's brother Narvin Lichfield of Carolina Springs Academy; and Robert's brother-in-law Don Peart of Majestic Ranch.

How about this comment made by WWASPS' president, Ken Kay, in 2000:

WWASPS President, Ken Kay, had a short falling out with WWASPS in 2000 and said:

"These people are basically a bunch of untrained people who work for this organization. So they don't have credentials of any kind. We could be leading these kids to long-term problems that we don't have a clue about because we're not going about it in the proper way. How in the hell can you call yourself a behavior modification program -- and that's one of the ways it's marketed – when nobody has the expertise to determine: Is this good, is this bad?"

Of grave concern are Romney's connections to Robert Lichfield, Teen Help, and World Wide Association of Specialty Schools, an organization linked to teen residential treatment centers (dubiously regulated or unregulated) all over the globe. This multi-million dollar organizations has been accused of abuse and neglect of teens in its programs, as well as fraud, child trafficing and racketeering.

WWASP preys on desperate parents and troubled teens- teens that Lichfield claims to want to "save" yet descredits and ultimately maligns with an oh-so familiar blame the victim mentality when they speak out about the abuse they have endured in one of his programs.

One wonders if the many campaign contributions WWASP leaders makes to local, state and national politicians (including judges) might be the reason the organization evades being shut down?

And just where does all this money come from for Cross Creek and Cross Creek Manor (same facility) in La Verkin UT (WWASP headquarters) to donate to Romney? The students pay a few hundred dollars for used, worn uniforms upon arrival and sleep on bedspring coils - not mattresses, a tour will reveal (among other things).
Perhaps Cross Creek should be using its 4-5 grand tuition/month per student to take better care of its "inmates" rather than to fund Romney?
Serious investigation into all these facilities and thier associates/investors needs to be done immediately!
Kudos to Congressman George Miller and the few other agencies/authorities that are trying to blow the whistle on this group and thier (alledged) widespread abuse of children. Kudos to you, David, for publishing your opinion on this. Shame on Romney for taking thier money!Shame on staff at these facilities and aftercare facilities that do not report on the abuse! Shame on parents who multilevel market thier children!

It differs from the expression shown in the previous section, as it doesn’t include the class name; it just specifies the resource key.
