Go-Go Golar Richie

Congratulations to Charlotte Golar-Richie for being named a senior advisor to Deval Patrick -- or more aptly, congratulations to Deval Patrick for landing Charlotte Golar Richie. Well, no matter, most of us had figured that Golar-Richie would be working for Patrick eventually, and sooner rather than later.

And poor Tom Menino, who has relied heavily on Golar Richie in recent years, now has yet another big job to fill.

This is a coup for Patrick. Golar Richie, a former state rep. who has been tending Menino's neighborhood vineyards with great skill for eight years, is well-liked by members who served with her in the House until 2000 and has strong relationships with pretty much the entire the Boston delegation - even newer members- through her city hall work. She'll bring some real-politik skills to his shop at a time when many members are still sore over the anti-Leg sabre-rattling that marked his first 100 days.
Its a good move for her, too, since she was on the far end of nearly a decade in city hall- more than enough for anyone. She'll now have a federal portfolio to add to her impressive creds at the city and state- not bad going into a presidential cycle that should be a Dem victory. Puts her on track for a major appt. potentially.
For the mayor, he was lucky to have her as long as he did. Now that he's lured top talent to the school dept., he has some breathing room to take his time and get another star for Housing-DND. Not the worst thing that could happen for him, timing wise.

Little kown fact is that Charlotte has been "on the outs" with His Honor for several years now. He doesn't like the way she takes the spotlight from him and is a political star in her own right -- after all it always has to be about Tommy. He took away a huge part of her jurisdiction (and budget) a few years ago hoping she'd leave then (b/c you can't fire her and look bad). HIs dream has come true.
