Talking Politics - Who you calling swanky?

Who you calling swanky?

Biography matters in politics, and Kerry Healey's tremendous personal wealth is a valid campaign issue. But let's not get carried away. I'm talking to you, Cyndi Roy and Kim Atkins!

Don't get me wrong--the Omni Parker House is a very nice hotel. But it's hardly the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons or the Langham. I mean, it's not even the fanciest hotel on its block.

If I were Cyndi--and I'm sure she'll appreciate the unsolicited advice--I'd focus all my class-related Healey digs on that dubious $1.2 million tax break that Affiliated Managers Group received a few years back. As most readers already know, Healey's husband Sean is AMG's president and CEO. And it's money he earned at AMG that's going to bankroll his wife's run for governor.

All of which means that, contrary to what Healey told Jim Braude last night, the AMG tax break is her problem, too. And it's going to be a tough one to deal with, especially since AMG's eventual decision to give the $1.2 million back to the state looks like an admission of guilt.

There's no obvious out for Healey here. But she needs to figure out a more graceful way of addressing the issue, and quick.

Adam - Thanks for bringing up the AMG issue again - in an era where both ethics in politics and the proper use of limited state government revenue are both very salient issues, it's critical. To see the KH - OoT take on it a few weeks ago, check out:

The AMG issue is a HUGE issue. As for what she said on Braude, in addition to what she said about the problem being one for AMG and not her (obviously untrue), she also talked about keeping and attracting businesses. Didn't we hear that in 2002? Where has she been? Romney didn't "sell" the state; we've lost jobs and population and that is not a problem of a Democratic legislature. She can wave gang of three posters all she wants but at the end of the day, it is all of our problem and the Romeny/Healey administration has shown zero leadership.

On the silly Omni Parker House issue, come on, I am a Dem -- how many events have we held there???!!!! Let's go after her on real issues of we look foolish and petty.

You nailed it Anon: Anyone who has ever been to a Dem fundraiser or volunteered for a Dem campaign has been to the Omni! Cyndi is talking out of her ass. The Mayor and other city officials still have their little private cabal meetings there. What the hell is she talking about?

You're all idiots! You do not even know her. But,that's just the nature of you democrats. Accusing an innocent lady of not helping Mitt Romney run the state well.Ridiculous!
