Talking Politics - Christy gets the Heisman?

Christy gets the Heisman?

There's another NECN/Globe/WBUR/MassInc debate later this month--this one's focused on healthcare and education--but unlike the first debate put on by those civic-minded organizations, Christy Mihos wasn't invited. (Neither was Kerry Healey, but we all know she wouldn't have come anyway.)

What's the scoop, you ask? According to NECN's Doreen Vigue, nothing nefarious is afoot. "They're the only party that's going to have a primary," Vigue says of the Mass Dems. "So we want voters to get a clear look at their candidates in this debate. That's not to say there won't be others...We look forward to having Mihos and Healey in another debate situation as soon as we can get them all together again."

Should Mihos be pissed? I'd say yes, if his performance in the last NECN, et al debate had been stronger. But based on what we saw of Christy's debating skills, he should probably be happy to sit this one out.

Why all the fuss about Mihos? What about Ross?

By the way - advantage Kerry Healey by giving no airtime to Ross and Mihos and arguing/fighting w/ each other airtime to the three blind mice.

This is no surprise. NECN has a long reputuation of excluding Republicans and independents from their debates. They did in 1998, holding a debate between the 10 Democratic candidates for Congress and then not having a final debate between a Republican, Socialist, and indie [myself]. They did the same thing in the gubernatorial race, keeping the libertarian that year - Dean Cook - out of the Celluch/Harshbarger debate. They did the same thing in 2002, keeping Dr. Jill Stein out of the debate for governor that year.

As an aside, Doreen Vigue used to be on that silly "Two Chicks Dishing" show which used to air nightly on 680 WRKO.

Though I did not catch the first debate, most agreed Mihos could have been stronger. So perhaps he can take the time and brush up on the issues a bit. And NECN does have a point in that the first race is the Dem Primary, so voters should have an opportunity to view that field on its own.

With that said, however, any network or candidate would be a fool to take Mihos' candidacy lightly. Very few in this state would entrust a Democrat with the Governorship. Reilly, possibly the most fiscally prudent of the Democrats, was on the radio this morning talking about gas prices and he sounded like Hugo Chavez. Across the board, they think government is the answer to everything.

And Healy is so tainted by the colossal disappointment known as the Romney administration, nobody will believe a word she says.

Ergo, -- watch Christy.

Well, wow i disagree with all the comments about the electability of Dems and the assertion that Reilly is the most fiscally conservative, sorry lol

Regarding the article-
While NECN has a point regarding the primary, they are fundamentally incorrect in two other ways which have more impact. First, they have an obligation under law to provide equal time to all candidates. Secondly, I challenge the mentality that siphoning off the other candidates promotes the Democrats en masse; it doesn't. Without context (Healey and Mihos) the debate will draw less viewership and lessen the effectiveness of any Dems ability to draw from the middle. So, bad call if this indeed is a partisan move. And i'm a Dem for Gabrieli
