Deval: Stop Burying News

Once again, Deval Patrick releases major news about his administration in such a way as to avoid questions, attention, and coverage. At 5:01pm today -- a Friday -- he put out a release announcing legislation he's just filed to reorganize the cabinet.

Much of the change has been known, but we've been awaiting the details to come in this legislation. Releasing it like this is bogus, and absolutely antithetical to the openness and transparency he purports to champion.

Enough said.

Missing news from the Governor's office? Send him an Open Records Request.

Oops! Can't do that. Mr. Patrick claims his office is exempt from that pesky little law.

We all want the governor to be successful and lead our state to new heights. His message during his campaign for office was most positive though lacking much substance.

The reorganization announcement tonight after hours is wrong. What Massachusetts does not need is another so called reorganization of state government that goes nowhere and does nothing.

If our new governor truly wants to do something than another "Ward Type Commission" is in order from top to bottom. Inefficiency, waste, fraud, and abuse must be addressed. The special interests of consultants, vendors, and the so called human service provider sector that has caused the state budget to bloat must be addressed head on. A stateman governor should determine what services government should provide and nececessary and insure the best and the brightest be retained and work for the Commonwealth in an apolitical human resource system.

When I looked at the the key players in his transition team, it made me cringe. Governor Patrick missed a great opportunity to be a statesman and not just another politician on the way to getting the disease that has plagued so many in that corner of the statehouse who hasn served before him-Potomac Fever. He should have shown the highest level of sincerity by having people on his incoming transition team that do not or will not have personal agendas such as themselves or clients doing or seeking business and Massachusetts Taxpayer dollars.

The names and faces may change but all remains the same as we all have seen in the recent changes from administration to administration and campaign to campaign.

I await Governor's budget and wonder what it will be more of the same or line items, subsidiary accounts, with object codes....no pork pet projects and in plain english. Lacking such...we will see more of the same.

who cares what time the bill is filed - it still has to go through the process...If the bill was filed at 1:00 PM on a Thursday would that really make a difference?

Supposedly the bill cannot be amended, just accepted or rejected...no big deal here!
