New gubernatorial poll, hot off the presses

Read it now!

Two things jump out at me: Tom Reilly's got some kind of Teflon thing going, and Deval Patrick has to be hoping that Chris Gabrieli gets in the race ASAP.

That's what jumps out at you?!

The sitting attorney general is well under 40% in both the primary and general election and you think that is some indication of things not sticking to him? Remember, it wasn't too long ago that he was breaking 50% against Romney or Healey and 60% against Deval Patrick.

Here's something that jumps out at me: 52% of those polled either agreed or strongly agreed that they'd "like to see an Independent candidate elected Governor for a change." I'm no fan of Christy Mihos, but it seems to me that there is a window for his candidacy. Also, 64% of the respondents said that they disagree with this: "if a Democrat is elected Governor, there would be no check and balance with a Democratic-controlled House & Senate and that spending would be out of control." That is a pretty narrow opening for the Dems, but it certainly doesn't jive with the conventional wisdom that voters demand that their governor be of a different party than that of the legislature.

That's the price I pay for rushing to post! I should have taken my time and said that Reilly's free fall seems to have stopped, at least for the time being. You're right that the 64 percent number is interesting, but I wonder what difference a slight change in wording might have made--something like, "Republican governors help keep the Democratic Legislature in check."

More important: Sco, where do I send your DVD???

Well, Adam, although I am with you most of the time, I actually disagree that it helps Patrick for Gabrieli to get in quickly. It infuses more money into the primary (through Gabrieli) and will force Reilly (who has a warchest) and Patrick to play ball in the money/media wars. Maybe Patrick has the personal wealth to keep up through an expensive primary AND general, but we just don't know and for now he's not telling....

What I find interesting is this: If Gabrieli is the nominee, Mihos wins: 26, Healey 21, and Gabrieli 16. This is kinda of a surprise because Gabrieli will probably go after that technocrat indie voter.

Another interesting thing: In a Healey, Deval, Mihos race, it is essentially a toss up: 25, 21, 20.

And the same with Reilly, Healey, and Mihos: 26, 25, 19.

I honestly can't believe that there are so many undecideds.

Polls taken no have about a zero factor on next November.
