Talking Politics - Barros to City Hall

Barros to City Hall

Dana, that is. Boston Mayor Tom Menino just announced that he's hired the Boston native and former B.C. and Celtics star to head the city's recreation department.

My first reaction? Nice imaginative move by the mayor. But then I remembered this Globe story--which, in retrospect, raises some questions about Barros's competence and focus as he joins Menino's team. (Apparently, Barros has scrapped his plans to become a college basketball coach.)

Actually, Adam, I was hoping that your note on Dana would lead into a commentary on the draft, Craig Smith going to Minnesota and the Celtics accumulation of mass quantities of players. Let's focus on what's really important!

Media Watch, I'd tell you how much time I wasted on the internet in the run-up to the draft, but my bosses might be displeased. What's your take on the Foye/Roy swap? I'm actually pleased the Wolves got the player they did, but the circumstances surrounding the trade were bizarre. Best explanation I heard is that the Wolves had a deal in the works to draft Roy and trade him to Houston for Foye and Luther Head, but then Portland got wind of it and nabbed Foye first. This makes sense, but it doesn't square with comments from the Wolves front office which suggest the Portland deal was prearranged. Then again, what possible reason would Portland have had to sign onto that deal beforehand???

On another note, I like the Rondo pick-up for the C's.

The irony for me is that I went to the Villanova - BC Sweet 16 game in Minneapolis and saw Foye singlehandedly beat Craig Smith and the Eagles (by a point), now they will play together in that very same arena!

New promo for the Celts, come to the Garden and see our all point guard lineup! Iverson, West, Greene, Rondo and Telfair! Short, but sweet!

Or maybe we'll just take Garnett off your hands ...
