City council blogging, week two

[Deirdre Fulton guest-blogging.]

Only two things worth noting this week:

11:40 a.m.: Council President Michael Flaherty bangs the gavel --- only 10 minutes late, a great improvement from last week! Councilors Ross, Feeney, Murphy, Turner, and Kelly are missing (Kelly gets a pass, obviously).

12:09 p.m.: Paul Scapicchio is stepping down, and he wants to make sure someone takes his place before budget process begins. Preliminary special election scheduled for May 16, general election will take place on June 13, new District One councilor to be sworn in by the end of June. Scappicchio hopes for a "robust race."

The meeting ended at 12:15, with Flaherty wishing the chamber a "happy, healthy, and safe Evacuation Day."

"Scappicchio hopes for a 'robust race.' "

Is that code for "Please, someone besides Ben Joplin enter the race!"?

Amazing they met at all during a week with a holiday in it.

Is Scappick leaving because of his love child? Real estate deal scandal? Too much competition from "blanks"?

Deidre-Did you get any cookies?

It’s amazing to hear the councilors rhetoric on the campaign trail and then see them in action.

Tony-Love child? Please elaborate.

Who do you think will be the next Young Turk to step down? My money is on Ross. He's a nice guy and tries to do the right thing, but I don't see much opportunity/potential for moving up. His district doesn't generate enough votes to run city-wide and I can't picture him campaigning against Wilkerson in the communities of color.

Paul has a love child with his ex-girlfriend. He knocked her up a few years back, I believe 1995 or something. She still lives in the apartment he later allegedly abandoned in the North End to move back in with his parents. His number is listed; she answers. The Boston Herald did some stuff about it a couple of years ago.

Yeah. The funny thing about Ross is that he was being pitched as an up-and-comer and he is essentially at a dead end. David Scondras proved that; Tom Keane proved that. Although, Mike has been able to put himself through law school with the cash he has made as a councilor [he used to be Menino's driver]. He has also had his picture taken a lot and been able to flirt with a bunch of hot chicks at bars downtown. So, it hasn't been a bad life if he never amounts to anything other than this.

recombinant technology not only made hormones, enzymes and antibody product cheaper and better, it also reduces the abuse of animals!
