Rumor: Gabrieli makes the cut

The new buzz at the convention has Gabrieli getting 15.4 percent, enough to make the primary ballot. One source tells me he was down 50 delegates until a deal was cut at the last minute to put him 30 over.

UPDATE: The Gabrieli camp was about to make an official announcement, but held off because, as they told the press, "new information had come to light." So take the above with a grain of salt.

How much did the "deal" cost Gabrielli? This guy is awesome, spending money hand over fist only to get rejected time and again at the polls. If I were one of his kids on the stage I'd be saying, "Gee dad, take it easy on my inheritance."

Oh no, you're missing the point of the deal. The deal was cut with Reilly, that's why most of Menino's delegates (who were all going for Reilly) went for Gabrielli.

Reilly thinks that getting Gabrielli on the ballot will only hurt Deval in the primary, and so he was desperate for it and instructed some of his delegates to vote for Gabrielly.

It was a mean, dirty trick that will come back to bite everyone in the ass. It will require both Patrick and Reilly to spend lots of money that they don't have, and it will require all three to play dirty to get ahead. And Gabrielli still won't win: he doesn't have the organization and he doesn't have the charisma and he doesn't have the record to run on, he just has the $. Him getting on the ballot makes the race entierly about $, which it wouldn't be if it was just Reilly and Patrick: neither has much to waste, and they would have used it carefully while concentrating on other things.
