Kane in See No Evil
|
Just your basic slasher fare where a horde of horny teens riddled with contemptuous attitude wind up in the lair of an ax-happy psycho. Like Jason from the Friday the 13th series, Jacob Goodnight (pro-wrestler Kane), whose MO is to rip out the eyes of his victims, has serious mommy issues. He lurks in the Blackwell Hotel, the kind of grimy, burnt-out building you’ve seen in Hostel or the Saw franchise. How convenient when a coed work detail of juvie lock-ups is furloughed to turn the decrepit structure into low-income housing. The obligatory shower scene and bloody eviscerations ensue. The most original — and horrifying — touch is the lick of human blood that unleashes a skittish mongrel’s inner wolf. Kane himself is not that frightening, but the chilling ambiance devised by director Gregory Dark, whose past credits are mostly porn, goes a long way to atone, the panache he developed in money shots now aiding in matters of arterial spray.
