WELCOME HOME ROSCOE JENKINS: A serious case of jet lag.

The already insufferable Martin Lawrence drenches his Def Comedy Jam “daaaaaamn” outbursts in half-assed family sweetness to bring us Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. Lawrence’s Roscoe is a crass TV producer suckered into a trip home for a family reunion. Roscoe shares a lifelong rivalry with cousin Clyde, who shows up with the girl they both crushed on as teens. She’s nice and sensible and pretty. Roscoe’s fiancée — a grasping Survivor champ — is awful and vain. “I wonder how this can possibly end?” Wait, sorry, I meant, “When will this possibly end?” Hacky conceits are interrupted only by terrible gags; if you can’t call them tired, it’s only because no one’s ever stooped so low before. I’d mention writer/director Malcolm D. Lee, but I don’t think of this film as written or directed so much as disinterestedly coughed up. 114 minutes | Boston Common + Fenway + Fresh Pond + Circle/Chestnut Hill + suburbs
