    It was apparently a "pretty crazy" morning at Gritty's, whose building's roof had a fire earlier - smoke was visible around the downtown. But they're open for business, so not to worry.

    And we suggest sampling some Gritty's this very evening - not at Gritty's, but at Port City Music Hall, where we at the Portland Phoenix are throwing a party to celebrate our 10th anniversary!

    Most 20th-anniversary celebrations are a little more involved than this:

    The Gritty McDuff's folks knew 2008 was their 20th anniversary year. But the word on the street is that yesterday a Gritty's staffer (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty) realized that July 21 was the actual, on-the-day, 20th anniversary of the founding of Gritty McDuff's.
