In case the Christmastime setting doesn't prove enduring enough, attempts are made to be hip and current, with Santa using TiVo and Buddy's extra-long elf tights having to be special-ordered from Amazon. Now and then a gag is tossed in for the grown-ups, such as Santa's sleigh being powered by the spirit of Christmas (eventual crisis anyone?) instead of flying reindeer because of "that nasty letter from PETA."
But don't worry. Everything works out fine in the end. Walter's job as a children's book publisher is on the line unless he comes up with the idea for a socko best seller by Christmas Eve, hardly a challenge considering the preceding. And as for that crisis Santa has about the lack of Christmas spirit, well, same deal.
For those of us who enjoy the spirit of the season, we could use more Elfs.
