Breaking in the New Year

Far from the maddening crowd
By JANICE CHECCHIO  |  January 24, 2007

‘A resolution to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible’ - Thomas Hardy, Far From the Madding Crowd (1874)

At the beginning of each year, millions of people make the decision to change their lives. Few actually follow through. So what’s the point of New Year’s resolutions? Just about everyone breaks them, and if it’s something you really wanted to do, why wait until January 1st to start? Instead, resolve to enjoy yourself a little more. Have another glass (or bottle) of wine and grab one more cigarette after inviting that ex over. You know, the one you resolved not to call anymore.
