You, Me and Dupree
Not formulaic enough

Formulaic might have been okay. But this vacuous comedy about a predictable slacker (Owen Wilson) who moves in with a pair of lame-ass newlyweds (Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson) isn’t nearly formulaic enough. Saddled with a wretched script, the film’s two directors (Anthony and Joe Russo) conduct a workshop on how to sculpt a potentially decent premise (with origins, alas, in TV sit-coms) into a shapeless mass of warm, glistening pooh. Their disregard for the basics of filmmaking can be baffling. Kate Hudson’s character, who appears to have no friends whatsoever, pulls a total 180, embracing Dupree for no reason after hating him for the first half. Meanwhile, Dupree’s love interest, a sex-crazed Mormon school librarian whose presence is intended to reveal his tender, caring side, never appears on screen.

Interview: Bobcat Goldthwait
"Not many people may know of my films, but I think they may have more legs than, like, a Kate Hudson movie."
Fool's Gold
As for Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, they should have a sit-down with their agents.
Shake Your Booty for a Bounty
Like in other businesses, family connections are important in filmmaking. Just ask Kate Hudson and Michael Douglas.

We Own the Night
James Gray’s film is in dire need of plausibility.

If Nicolas Cage weren’t a goofball with a hunky physique and droll wit, this Marvel-comic-to-big-screen adaptation would have no torque at all.

Where it was
As a wee lad, Jeff Coveney went down to the sea on Martha’s Vineyard in search of where Steven Spielberg and crew shot bits of Jaws . “Where’s the beach?” he remembers shouting out.
