Review: Delgo

Somewhat less impressive than the Geico gecko

VIDEO: The trailer for Delgo

In a far-away animated land resembling Middle-earth by way of George Lucas's Clone Wars, two races clash over a common territory in a situation akin to the current conflict in the Middle East.

On one side stand the Lockni, who can animate stones; on the other are the Nohrin, who have wings and can fly. Both are reptile-like creatures somewhat less impressive than the Geico gecko. The politics and the distant planets, however, are mere Day-Glo backdrop for the film's simplistic moral, as the teenage Lockni hero of the title (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.) falls for a Nohrin princess (Jennifer Love Hewitt).

What follows has all the novelty of a video game you've played for the umpteenth time. Directors Marc F. Adler and Jason Mauer could have spared us the trouble and sent this one direct to Xbox.

If Rod Lurie's errant remake of Straw Dogs didn't tickle your morbid fear of home invasion, then perhaps the latest from Joel Schumacher ( Falling Down ) might do the job.
