Bebe Buell
Word is leaking out that BEBE BUELL will be playing some local dates this summer and fall. Well, local meaning Boston this summer, July 22, with TWIN ENGINES and the RUDDS, at the Middle East Downstairs. Bebe says it’s her first Boston gig since 1988 (that’s, like, two years before the “Sibilance” staff started watching Beverly Hills 90210). If you get on your horse, you could even catch her July 12 (tonight or tomorrow, depending on how hot you’re reading this off of the press) at the Cutting Room in New York City. But, we swear, there are unfinalized plans for Bebe to play Portland in September, which would be her first Portland show since a headlining date at the Skinny back in 2000. We’d like to know how you could pass up a night with Bebe.

If you’re curious about country songsmith TRAVIS HUMPHREY (part of a cultural power couple with Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance honcho Shonna Humphrey), you should check out www.travisjameshumphrey.com,where you can get a sneak peek at his new CD, which will be released with a series of shows starting July 23. Also, there will be radio appearances, including a guest-host slot August 1 with the apparently popular Mike and Mike on KISS 94.5, which is in Bangor, where they apparently have radio now (who knew?). Plus, he’s doing Charlie Gaylord’s “Greetings” July 19 on WCLZ and is sitting in with Willy Ritch on WGAN on July 22 (WGAN is in Portland, so we’re not sure what our excuse should be for having zero clue who Willy Ritch is — no offense intended. We just haven’t heard of him on the music scene).

Recently, a very well-meaning representative of jazz pianist MATTHEW FOGG attempted (we’re pretty sure, ironically) to bribe that Sam Pfeifle guy into reviewing Fogg’s new disc by delivering the disc with pieces of dark chocolate attached. Hey, well played, we say — it’s fairly obvious Pfeifle is ethically suspect — but little did this person realize that Pfeifle would obviously leave the package on the seat of his car all day at work and then come out and pick up the package and toss it aside, at which point dripping and melted chocolate got all over his upholstery and newly dry-cleaned pants, causing him to hate that well-meaning person forever because he’s just that kind of illogical jerk. (Ha! Just kidding. Pfeifle’s not like that at all. Ha! Like that would happen...) Anyway, check www.mattfogg.com for dates and info about This Is What You Want, which also features vocalist CHERI GAUDET GRIMMET and guitarist SCOTT MORGAN.

Late word came in this week that HEADSTART! have completed their third full-length, and are hosting a top-secret listening party for it in the next two weeks or so. We, obviously, have been invited. Because we’re cool (no, seriously, we are!).
