Dashboard Confessional

Dusk and Summer | Vagrant
By JULIA KAGANSKIY  |  July 24, 2006

Emo is the new arena rock and Dashboard Confessional are poised to become the next U2. At least, that’s what this album would have you believe. No trace remains of the stark, guileless acoustic anthems that once characterized Dashboard’s sound; the boy with the guitar has acquired mates and a team of heavyweight producers who’ve polished every ounce of grit out of Chris Carrabba. Only the title track bears any resemblance to what Dashboard once were; written and thrown in at the last minute, it comes off as a bout of nostalgia, Carrabba’s last, half-hearted attempt not to lose sight of what he used to be.
