Shimmy Shimmy Blade | Tsunami Addiction

The French hip-hop brother duo dDamage want your brain — they’re less concerned with sounding like their more conventional peers than they are focused on destroying everything we know about how hip-hop should sound. Breaking hiccups and feedback permeate the tracks here, and they toss in thunderous drum breaks and pulsing synth hooks along the way. The guest MCs don’t play along so much as try to keep up, and they do a pretty good job — no surprise given that we’re talking Mike Ladd, Bigg Jus of Company Flow, and MF Doom, who low-rides over a dark and bubbling beat on “My Favourite Ladies Part 2.” The opening title track featuring Existereo can’t be topped, though; it has enough energy for a whole album and a genre-splicing display that bridges the gap between electro-punk and hip-hop. Put this on at your next warehouse party and watch the kids throw beer bottles at the walls and topple their capitalist masters.
