Notes on Mobius and Township
By SARAH TOMLINSON  |  March 8, 2006

MobiusBrooklyn-by-way-of-Shutesbury electro-rock trio Mobius Band have just got the opening gig on the Editors/Stellastarr* spring tour, though they’ve yet to be confirmed for the March 20 stop at the Roxy. The band say they’ll unveil new material for a CD they plan to finish writing this summer. Look for a Junior Boys remix of the title track from 2005’s The Loving Sounds of Static (Ghostly), and the previously unreleased Mobius track “Electronic Piano” on the upcoming Ghostly comp Idol Tryouts Two. . . . Former Runner and the Thermodynamics singer/guitarist Marc Pinansky and ex–Cancer Conspiracy drummer Greg Beadle have formed Township, with a line-up that includes Spitzz guitarist John Sheeran on bass and ex–Radar Eyes bassist Jason Gillis on guitar. They plan to record this month at Zara Coda, the studio run by ex-Runner guitarist Mike Oor and his Snowleopards mate Heidi Saperstein. The first show is April 12 at T.T’s. . . . Street punks the Welch Boys celebrate their homonymous debut at the Middle East on March 24 with a crew of locals including Jason Bennett and the Resistance, the Good Fight (fronted by Street Dogs singer Mike McColgan’s brother Don), and the reunited Blue Bloods. Recorded at Jim Siegel’s Stoughton studio the Outpost, The Welch Boys features hard-hitting melodic punk like “Les Paul” and “Friend or Foe,” both up on the band’s Web site (www.thewelchboys.com). The show also marks the launch of Sailor’s Grave (www.sailorsgraverecords.com), a new imprint founded by Thorp honcho Andy King. The Toledo-based label is already promising new releases from several Boston bands including the Ducky Boys and the Kings of Nuthin’.
