One obvious omission from last week’s summer preview article was DOMINIC AND THE LUCID’s much-anticipated third album (don’t forget Vinyl Human, people), Season of the Sun. The band have been crafting this concept album of sorts since the fall of last year and there’s a buzz surrounding the band especially since the CAMBIATA/DARO’s SEAN MORIN came on board. The new disc will be available starting August 23 with a gig at the Empire (see, that’s barely summer in Maine anyway).

What’s up with the new infatuation by local musicians with wearing musical costumes? On one level, the “Sibilance” staff appreciates hearing talented musicians play the music of the Beatles or Doors, and it was cool last weekend to see OK Computer played in its entirety by members of WHY HELLO, the CAMBIATA, and the MODEL AIRPLANE at the Big Easy. Why wouldn’t you want to hear KEVIN KENNIE (HEADSTART!), HACHE HORCHATTA (AS FAST AS), DANNY MACLEOD (LOVERLESS), and RYLAND COOK (EVEN ALL OUT, WHY HELLO) play the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers this weekend at the Big Easy? Plus, we appreciate pro musicians getting a paycheck for doing something fun and that whole CLASH OF THE TITANS thing is a blast. But we would like to reiterate our opinion that, on the whole and as a rule, we would rather hear original music being played by our local bands. Much of it is world class.

Two brief corrections to the FASTER! FASTER! review of a couple weeks back: The band’s connection to the MAINE ACADEMY OF MODERN MUSIC is through the drummer’s employ there, not through enrollment, and the vocalists were transposed in the description of the chorus for “If You Don’t Mind.” Sorry about that.
