You may have missed it, as things were organized quickly, but a number of Portland musicians got together Saturday to raise cash for long-time Big Easy doorman “Uncle” Eddy Libby, who’s been in the hospital lately thanks to diabetes complications and who doesn’t sport any health insurance. We don’t know anyone who doesn’t love this guy. If you’re looking to donate, send checks to Edward Libby, care of the Big Easy, at 55 Market Street in Portland.

That’s right, Darien Brahms is finally following up on 2003’s excellent Green Valentine with another disc from Cornmeal Records: Number 4. The album will be available in stores August 18 and a release party is scheduled for SPACE on September 6.

The August 9 Baystock Festival, featuring John Fogerty, will be the last gig for As Fast As before drummer Andrew Hodgkins and bassist Hache leave on a year-long sabbatical. Catch them while you can.
