Portland scene report: November 21, 2008

Sibilance starts now
By PORTLAND PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  November 19, 2008

The Internets giveth and the Internets taketh away: Some poor research led to some mistakes in "Sibilance" last week. Here's the correct information about TARPIGH's new CD. It'll be released at the Meg Perry Center on November 29 and Tarpigh won't even perform at the release. Instead, CRANK STURGEON, BIG BLOOD, MICAH BLUE SMALDONE, CHRISS SUTHERLAND, AMOS LIBBY, VINCE NEZ, MICHAEL GALLANT, KARL GREENWALD, and GEORGE AND MARY ZARATE will be performing Tarpigh's music that night. Sweet, right?

ERIC BETTENCOURT has put the finishing touches on a debut release, Fine Old World. Roughly three years in the making, it'll be out in early December (in time for stockings!) and there will be a party January 10. You know, if you like parties.

TRAVIS KLINE will release his second EP December 2, More Time. It features RYAN ADAMS AND THE CARDINALS'JON GRABOFF, ROY DAVIS AND THE DREGS, and TODD HUTCHISEN (are there any bands this guy is not playing with?). It's an alt-country kind of thing, as you might expect.

CAROLYN CURRIE, a singer/songwriter with four discs already on her resume, will release her first album since moving here to Portland with a party at the Southworth Planetarium (great idea, by the way), December 6. Called Waves of Silence, it will be released properly on ETHEREAN RECORDS in January, but locals get the sneak peek. Also, there's word the Planetarium is cooking up some trippy visuals.

LOW 90 have just finished a session with JON WYMAN over at the HALO and it they're planning on releasing a four-song EP in the not-too-distant future. The three-piece now send it off to GATEWAY and hope to get the release party under way before Christmas.
