ANTHONY GEMMA

If you're gonna be a turkey, you might as well strut.

That could have been the slogan for businessman-turned-Congressional candidate Anthony Gemma's bizarre, egomaniacal campaign.

In an attempt to tease the official declaration of his candidacy, the Democrat pledged an announcement that would "positively impact the political, economic, and cultural fates of Rhode Island and, by extension, the United States of America for the foreseeable future."

And in the closing days of his poorly planned and astoundingly ineffective primary campaign, he staged a circus-like press conference in which he lobbed unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud at Congressman David Cicilline.

He spoke of frightened voters holed up in their attics with weapons and of a prominent member of the state's House of Representatives cross-dressing to cast a fraudulent ballot.

All this from a turkey who could have staged a very competitive campaign by squawking the same message over and over again: Cicilline, the former mayor of Providence, lied to you about the city's finances during his previous Congressional campaign and he'll lie to you again.
